intuitiveinteractions asked: I would really love to know how you take some of your photos! Please get back to me

Hey :) i have a kindof long-winded answer to that..

I’m completely fascinated with transparent surfaces and their ability to manipulate light in staged settings- this starting point leads me to a ton of different materials and processes. The basic idea involves placing objects very close to a macro lens to distort light and color that passes through or reflects off of them..I use So much random stuff…glass, plastic, mirrored mylar, prisms, iridescent cellophane, bike reflectors, broken stuff- stage lights, filters from projectors, rainbow stickers, embarrassing amounts of christmas lights and on and on..It’s hard to define my process because I’m constantly shifting the approach but the main thread that runs across all my work is the use of ordinary materials and a pretty low-tech setup.

Phew well I hope that satisfies some curiosity….Thanks for the question!

zeelanderchan asked: I love your photos. They put me into so many daydreams. What do you usually think about when you create these photos?

I’m usually focusing on trying to find the best angle and lighting for what I’m photographing (which is often some sort of reflective or transparent object) and am totally immersed in technical aspects- but there is also a sort of meditative intuition that guides my decision-making that’s not easily explained. I’m never really thinking about anything super deep or abstract, it’s a problem-solving state of mind.
